About the coach

The coaching career of Ferdinando De Giorgi

Ferdinando De Giorgi is an Italian volleyball coach and former international setter who continues to lead Italy’s men’s national team in 2026. The Italian federation lists him as commissario tecnico for the EuroVolley 2026 cycle, extending a tenure that began in 2021. De Giorgi returned to the national program after a long club-coaching career and quickly oversaw a generational transition that restored Italy to the top of men’s international volleyball.

The first two seasons of his current national-team tenure produced two defining titles: the 2021 European Championship and the 2022 FIVB World Championship. Those achievements added coaching success to a playing career in which De Giorgi had already been part of Italy’s celebrated world-title generation, winning three consecutive World Championships as a player in 1990, 1994 and 1998. Between his playing and current national-team phases, he coached extensively in the Italian league and abroad, including major spells with Lube and clubs in Poland and Russia. That background gives him an unusually direct connection between different eras of Italian volleyball. His 2026 role is therefore not based on nostalgia; it rests on a recent record of rebuilding a senior national team around a younger core while maintaining the technical standards expected from Italy.
