Andrea Giani is an Italian volleyball coach and one of the most decorated former players to move into elite national-team management. He remains head coach of France’s men’s national team in 2026, leading the reigning back-to-back Olympic champions through the EuroVolley cycle. Giani took over France in 2022 after previous national-team jobs with Slovenia and Germany and has continued the program’s position among the strongest teams in international men’s volleyball.
His playing career gives the coaching résumé exceptional historical depth. Giani was a central member of Italy’s dominant generation of the 1990s, winning three FIVB World Championships and numerous European and World League titles while playing across front-row positions. As a coach, he led Slovenia to a EuroVolley silver medal in 2015 and Germany to another European silver in 2017 before joining France. Under Giani, France won the 2024 Volleyball Nations League and the Paris 2024 Olympic gold medal, defending the Olympic title the team had first captured in Tokyo. Those results established him as more than a former star turned coach. His national-team career shows repeated success with different player groups, while his earlier club work in Italy gave him experience with the longer tactical and personnel cycles that international volleyball does not provide.
