Andrea Anastasi is an Italian volleyball coach and former international player who became head coach of the Berlin Recycling Volleys for the 2026–27 season. Berlin signed him to a two-year contract in June 2026, bringing one of Europe’s most experienced coaches into the German Bundesliga after his recent work with Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza. The appointment added Germany to a coaching career already spanning major clubs and national teams in Italy, Spain, Poland and Belgium.
Anastasi’s volleyball résumé is unusual because he reached the sport’s highest level as both player and coach. As an outside hitter with Italy, he was part of the team that won the 1990 FIVB World Championship and 1989 European Championship. He then built a long coaching career that included national-team spells with Italy, Spain, Poland and Belgium. As head coach, he led Italy to the 1999 European title and World League success, Spain to the 2007 European Championship, and Poland to medals in major international events. Club assignments later included Trefl Gdańsk, Projekt Warszawa, Sir Safety Perugia and Piacenza. Berlin’s decision to hire him after a decade of domestic dominance reflects a specific ambition: pairing an established German championship structure with a coach whose career has repeatedly been measured against European and international competition.
