Gilberto Godoy Filho, widely known as Giba, is a retired Brazilian outside hitter who became one of the defining faces of Brazil’s golden era. He won Olympic gold at Athens 2004 and silver medals at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 while also helping Brazil win three consecutive World Championships from 2002 to 2010.
Giba combined explosive attacking with elite serve reception and an emotional leadership style that made him central to Brazil’s six-rotation system. His club career included major stops in Brazil, Italy and Russia before he retired from professional volleyball in 2014.
