Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball represents Long Beach State University in the Big West Conference and has been one of the most successful programs in NCAA men’s volleyball. Based in Long Beach, California, the Beach entered 2026 under head coach Nick MacRae after the retirement of longtime coach Alan Knipe. The program’s competitive identity has been shaped by elite recruiting, technical development and an expectation of playing meaningful matches late in the season.
Long Beach State has won four NCAA national championships: 1991, 2018, 2019 and 2025. The Beach has also accumulated a long list of NCAA Final Four appearances and conference titles, including another national semifinal run in 2026. That combination of historic success and recent championship performance keeps Long Beach State among the benchmark programs for evaluating the strength of the U.S. men’s college game.
