Jakob Thelle is a Norwegian setter whose career has combined an unusually successful NCAA run with a steady move through major European leagues. The left-handed playmaker developed at the University of Hawai‘i, where he helped the Rainbow Warriors win consecutive NCAA championships in 2021 and 2022 before earning national player-of-the-year recognition in 2023. That college period established the central features of his game: a fast release, an aggressive serving profile and enough size at the net to remain involved as a blocker rather than becoming a defensive target in the front row.
His professional career began in Italy with Cucine Lube Civitanova and then broadened through France and Poland. Those stops have required Thelle to adapt from the long, structured college season to club systems in which setter decisions are continually reshaped by changing pass quality, foreign-player combinations and different attacking tempos. At 1.98 meters, he can distribute from a high contact point while also using the dump and second-contact attack as credible options. His serve adds another way to influence matches without the ball passing through his hands.
In 2026–27, Thelle is registered with Jastrzębie Barkom in Poland after playing for BBTS Bielsko-Biała the previous season. He also remains a central figure for Norway’s men’s national team, giving the program an experienced setter with NCAA championship pedigree and several seasons of professional exposure across Europe.
