Early Life & Volleyball Beginnings
Ramos developed in the volleyball system of Vélez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires. In 2010, he was part of the Vélez men’s team that won the Metropolitan U21 Open, an early title for a player already progressing through Argentina’s youth national-team structure.
His first senior domestic season included a spell with SOS Villa María. A contemporary report published when UPCN signed him in 2011 described Ramos as a Vélez-developed player who had spent the previous season with the Villa María club. That step placed him in Argentina’s national league before one of the defining moves of his career.
UPCN Vóley Club brought Ramos to San Juan in 2011. He was still only 19, but the move connected him with a club entering the most successful period in its history. Ramos would remain there for nine seasons, eventually becoming captain and one of the longest-serving players of the era.
His international development was happening at the same time. Ramos had already appeared for Argentina at the 2010 Pan American Cup and won silver at the 2011 FIVB U21 World Championship, moving quickly from age-group competition into the senior program.
Club Career

UPCN Vóley Club
Ramos spent the central part of his twenties with UPCN, a period that established both his domestic résumé and his identity as a middle blocker capable of contributing in first-tempo attack, blocking and service pressure.
Across nine seasons, he won six Argentine league championships, five domestic Supercups and four Argentine Cups. UPCN also won the South American Club Championship in 2013 and 2015 during his tenure. By the later years of the run, Ramos was serving as captain.
The 2017–18 season offered a particularly clear measure of his standing inside Argentine volleyball. UPCN won another league championship, and Ramos was named both Best National Player and Best First Middle Blocker at the ACLAV awards. The honors came at the end of a campaign in which he was captaining a team that had become the dominant force of the Argentine league.
UPCN also gave Ramos regular exposure to international club competition. The team appeared repeatedly at South American championships and FIVB Club World Championships, giving him experience against elite middle blockers and setters before he eventually moved to Europe.
Narbonne Volley
After nearly a decade with UPCN, Ramos left Argentina in 2020 to join Narbonne Volley in France.
The move was his first sustained European club experience. Narbonne gave him two seasons in French volleyball and, in 2021–22, a significant continental title. The club reached the CEV Challenge Cup final against Halkbank Ankara after surviving several demanding knockout rounds.
Narbonne lost the away leg of the final but recovered at home on 22 March 2022, winning the match 3–1 and then taking the Golden Set 21–19. Ramos was part of the lineup that completed the comeback, giving him his first European club trophy.
That title became the closing achievement of his French period. A few months later, Guaguas announced his signing for the 2022–23 Spanish season.
CV Guaguas Las Palmas

Ramos joined Guaguas in 2022 after the Challenge Cup triumph. In an official club interview ahead of his first season in Spain, he explained that he had been looking for a team with the ambition to compete for every available title and saw that expectation as part of the appeal of moving to Gran Canaria.
His first year ended with the 2022–23 Spanish Superliga championship. Guaguas then strengthened its domestic control, and Ramos became one of the stable middle blockers around which Sergio Miguel Camarero rotated the front line.
The 2023–24 campaign produced another league championship as well as the Spanish SuperCup and Copa del Rey. Ramos was selected to the league’s end-of-season ideal team after Guaguas defeated Grupo Herce Soria in the championship series.
Guaguas repeated the domestic sweep in 2024–25, winning the SuperCup, Copa del Rey and Superliga. The league final ended with a straight-sets victory in Soria, completing a season in which Ramos remained one of the experienced central pieces of the squad.
The success continued in 2025–26. Guaguas won another Spanish SuperCup at the end of 2025 and then secured a fourth consecutive Superliga championship in May 2026. Ramos also remained involved in the club’s Champions League campaign; in February, he scored 13 points in a win over Berlin that helped underline his continuing ability to contribute offensively at European level.
Ramos stayed with Guaguas for 2026–27. The club’s preseason material lists him among the returning middle blockers and confirms that he continues to wear No. 18.

National Team Career
Senior Debut and Early International Years
Ramos entered Argentina’s senior national-team picture unusually early for a middle blocker. He was part of the squad at the 2010 Pan American Cup and continued through the age-group system, taking silver with Argentina at the 2011 U21 World Championship.
By 2013 he was regularly involved in major senior competitions. Argentina finished second at that year’s South American Championship, and Ramos subsequently appeared at the 2014 World Championship and 2015 World Cup.
The 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto brought his first major senior multi-sport title. Argentina won gold, an achievement still highlighted in his Argentine Olympic Committee profile.
Rio 2016 and the 2017 Pan American Cup
Ramos made his Olympic debut at Rio 2016. Argentina advanced from the preliminary round before losing to Brazil in the quarterfinals and finished tied for fifth, earning an Olympic diploma.
His international standing continued to rise the following year. Argentina won the 2017 Pan American Cup, and Ramos was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. The award was significant for a middle blocker in a role that often generates fewer headline scoring totals than the opposite or outside hitter positions.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Bronze
Tokyo 2020 became the defining national-team result of Ramos’s career.
Argentina selected him among three middle blockers alongside Sebastián Solé and Agustín Loser. The team emerged from a difficult preliminary group, with Ramos contributing important net play during the run to the knockout stage.
Argentina then defeated Italy in five sets in the quarterfinals. After losing to France in the semifinal, the team faced Brazil in the bronze-medal match and won another five-set contest, 15–13 in the deciding set.
The result gave Argentina its first men’s volleyball Olympic medal since Seoul 1988. For Ramos, it was the first Olympic medal of his career and remains a single bronze-medal achievement from the Tokyo 2020 Games held in 2021.
Only weeks later, Argentina finished second at the 2021 South American Championship. Ramos and Agustín Loser were both selected as Best Middle Blockers in the tournament’s Dream Team.
World Championship and the 2023 South American Title
Ramos remained in Argentina’s core after Tokyo. He competed at the 2022 World Championship, where Argentina advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time in two decades before losing to Brazil.
The following year produced another historic result.
Argentina selected Ramos for the 2023 South American Championship in Recife. He started in the group-stage victory over Chile, scoring seven points as Argentina continued its unbeaten run toward the decisive meeting with Brazil.
Argentina defeated Brazil 3–0 in the final match to win the South American title for the first time since 1964. Ramos was part of the 14-player championship squad, adding continental gold to a national-team résumé that already included Olympic bronze and Pan American Games gold.
Paris 2024 and Continued Role Through 2026
Paris 2024 was Ramos’s third Olympic Games. Argentina did not advance from the preliminary round and finished 11th, while Ramos appeared in two matches.
Rather than ending his international career after Paris, he remained available to Argentina through the next cycle.
Ramos returned for the 2026 Volleyball Nations League and scored 33 points across the tournament: 25 in attack, six from blocks and two from serves. His strongest individual scoring performance came against Poland, when he produced 15 points, including 12 attacks, two blocks and an ace.
He then joined Argentina for the September 2026 South American Championship in Rio de Janeiro. Argentina entered the final day unbeaten but lost 3–0 to Brazil, finishing with the silver medal and earning qualification for the 2027 FIVB World Cup.
At 35, Ramos remains an active senior international, although Argentina now has a deeper group of middle blockers that includes Agustín Loser, Nicolás Zerba, Joaquín Gallego and younger options. His role is therefore increasingly one of experience and situational contribution rather than the uninterrupted starting workload of earlier Olympic cycles.
Playing Style & Strengths
Ramos’s game is built around the core responsibilities of a middle blocker: reading the setter, closing lateral space at the net, providing a credible first-tempo attacking option and serving aggressively enough to disrupt the opposing offense.

His blocking value is closely tied to timing rather than exceptional height. At 197 cm, Ramos is shorter than many international middle blockers, which makes his first movement and hand positioning particularly important. He has to identify the likely set quickly and arrive early enough to penetrate over the net rather than relying on reach alone.
The 2026 VNL match against Poland showed that his influence can extend beyond blocking. Ramos scored 12 attack points from 18 attempts, added two blocks and an ace, finishing with 15 total points. For a middle, that kind of scoring line requires the setter to trust him repeatedly in first-tempo situations.
His attack is most effective when reception allows the setter to keep the middle involved. A fast approach through the center forces the opposing middle blocker to respect the first tempo, which in turn can create cleaner one-on-one situations for Argentina’s wing attackers.
Ramos also brings a serving component that has remained relevant late in his career. Middle blockers are sometimes used primarily to put the ball safely in play, but Ramos has regularly served with enough pressure to create direct points or force the receiving team away from its preferred offense.
Experience has become another part of his value. He has played under different international systems, captained UPCN, competed in three Olympic Games and spent more than a decade facing high-level setters and attackers. That accumulated reading ability is especially useful in a position where anticipating the next set can matter as much as raw physical reach.

Personal Life & Interests
Ramos is widely known by the nickname “El Turco.” His Argentine Olympic Committee profile lists former Argentina outside hitter Javier Filardi as an athlete he admires and identifies going to the cinema with friends as one of his hobbies away from volleyball.
The same profile records his long-standing sporting ambition as becoming an Olympic champion. While Argentina did not win gold during his first three Olympic appearances, the bronze medal in Tokyo placed him among the relatively small group of Argentine men’s volleyball players to reach an Olympic podium.
Where Is Martín Ramos Playing Now?
Ramos remains with CV Guaguas Las Palmas for the 2026–27 season and continues to wear No. 18.
The club’s August 2026 preseason material confirmed him among the middle blockers in Sergio Miguel Camarero’s squad. Ramos was initially absent from preseason because he was training and competing with Argentina, then returned to Gran Canaria after the September South American Championship.
His club role follows four consecutive Spanish Superliga titles from 2023 through 2026. Internationally, he also remains active for Argentina after playing in both the 2026 VNL and South American Championship. That combination makes him one of the most experienced active middle blockers in the Argentine program.
