How Paris 2024 Turned Pool Form into Olympic Medals
The Olympic pool table is important for qualification and quarterfinal seeding, but it does not determine the final placement. Italy and Slovenia both completed perfect 3–0 men’s pool campaigns, while the United States also went unbeaten, yet France emerged from the knockout phase as champion.

Paris 2024 featured 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams. The field was divided into three pools of four, with the eight qualified teams advancing to the quarterfinals before a single-elimination path through the semifinals and medal matches.
Pool records and points determined progression and seeding, while the knockout phase determined the final Olympic placements. The volleyball tournament was staged in Paris, France, from 27 July through 11 August 2024.
