Giovanni Caprara is an Italian volleyball coach with extensive experience in women’s club and national-team competition. He is the head coach of C.S.O. Voluntari 2005 in the 2026–27 European cycle, leading the Romanian club after a career that has included major assignments in Italy, Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan and the Netherlands. Voluntari’s rise into Champions League-level competition gives Caprara another project in which an experienced international coach is paired with a club trying to establish itself beyond its domestic league.
Caprara’s best-known national-team achievement came with Russia’s women, whom he guided to the 2006 FIVB World Championship title. His club résumé includes prominent Italian teams as well as Eczacıbaşı in Turkey, and he has worked with several national programs, including Azerbaijan and the Netherlands. The length and variety of that career matter because women’s volleyball has changed substantially across his time on the bench, from scoring and libero-era adjustments to modern data-driven roster management. Caprara has continued to find roles across different competitive levels rather than remaining attached to one national system. His current work in Romania fits that pattern: a veteran Italian coach bringing experience from world-title and Champions League environments into a newer ambitious club structure. His résumé also includes extensive work across European club volleyball.
