John Speraw is an American volleyball coach and sports executive who serves as President and CEO of USA Volleyball. He moved into the executive role in October 2024 after more than a decade as head coach of the United States men’s national team. By 2026 his primary responsibility is organizational rather than day-to-day team coaching, with USA Volleyball charging him with leading the national governing body toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Speraw’s coaching résumé spans both international and NCAA volleyball. He led the U.S. men from 2013 through 2024 and guided the team to Olympic bronze medals in Rio 2016 and Paris 2024, along with numerous World League, Volleyball Nations League and World Cup podiums. In the college game, he won three NCAA championships as head coach of UC Irvine and two more with UCLA, after earlier winning NCAA titles as a UCLA player and assistant coach. That combination made him the only person in men’s college volleyball to win an NCAA championship in all three roles. Speraw also co-founded the First Point Volleyball Foundation to expand boys’ and men’s participation. His move into USA Volleyball leadership therefore extends rather than abandons his coaching work: the focus has shifted from selecting lineups and preparing matches to shaping the wider system that develops teams, coaches and participation nationally.
