Marcelo Méndez is an Argentine volleyball coach whose club career has taken him through South America and Europe while his national-team work has included both Spain and Argentina. He is the head coach of Itas Trentino under a contract running through the 2026–27 season. Trentino appointed him in 2025 after four seasons in Poland, where he coached Asseco Resovia and Jastrzębski Węgiel. The move marked his first head-coaching job in Italy’s SuperLega despite decades of experience in elite club volleyball.
Méndez’s strongest club identity was established with Sada Cruzeiro in Brazil. During a long and highly successful spell, he helped build the club into a world-level power, winning repeated Brazilian and South American titles as well as FIVB Club World Championships. He later won major trophies in Poland, including league success with Jastrzębski. At national-team level, Méndez coached Argentina from 2018 through the 2025 World Championship cycle, with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medal standing as the defining result of that tenure. His shift to Trentino therefore brought together experience from several different environments: the sustained club building of Cruzeiro, a medal-winning national team and the pressure of Polish championship competition. In Trento, that background is applied to another club with expectations in both domestic and Champions League play.
