About the coach

The coaching career of Silvano Prandi

Silvano Prandi is an Italian volleyball coach whose career spans more than five decades of elite men’s volleyball. In 2026 he remains head coach of Chaumont VB 52 in France, continuing a long association with the club that began in 2017. The longevity of that assignment is striking in a profession built around short cycles, but it also fits Prandi’s broader career: he has repeatedly combined detailed technical work with long-term team building rather than moving exclusively through brief national-team appointments.

Prandi’s place in Italian volleyball history was established well before the modern Champions League era. He coached Italy’s men to the bronze medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, the country’s first Olympic medal in men’s volleyball, and led major Italian clubs including Torino, Cuneo and Latina. Later in his career he coached Bulgaria’s national team in separate periods, adding another international layer to a résumé already rich in Serie A experience. His work with Chaumont has extended that career deep into his seventies and has kept him involved in both French domestic competition and European cups. Prandi is therefore best understood not only as a successful historical figure, but as a coach whose methods and professional relevance have survived major changes in rules, tactics, sports science and the economics of elite volleyball.
