Inside Los Angeles Orbit

Los Angeles Orbit, branded by LOVB as LA Orbit, is the league’s Southern California expansion club for the 2026–27 season. The franchise pairs one of the United States’ largest volleyball markets with a marquee home setting at Intuit Dome in Inglewood. Brazilian coaching icon José Roberto Guimarães was chosen to lead the inaugural team, immediately giving the club a technical identity connected to decades of Olympic and international success. The Orbit name and visual identity were unveiled ahead of first serve as part of an effort to make the team feel distinctly Los Angeles rather than simply attaching a city label to a league-operated roster.

Southern California is already one of the world’s major volleyball regions, with deep beach, indoor, youth and collegiate traditions. Orbit’s opportunity is to convert that existing interest into regular support for a women’s indoor professional club. Its launch also arrives as the area prepares for an unusually visible volleyball period leading toward the 2028 Olympic Games. The club therefore begins with advantages that many expansion teams lack: a mature local talent culture, a major arena and a head coach whose résumé is familiar well beyond the United States. What it does not have is inherited club history, so its identity will be defined by the rivalries, players and supporter traditions developed from its first LOVB Pro seasons onward.
