The 2028 Men’s Volleyball Nations League is scheduled for 22 May–25 June 2028. Its preliminary phase will also serve as the final World Ranking checkpoint for Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualification.
Three Olympic quota places will go to the highest-ranked men’s teams not already qualified when the VNL 2028 preliminary phase closes. The 2028 VNL field, host cities, pools and format have not yet been officially published.
Why This Upcoming Edition Matters
For countries still outside the Olympic field after the 2027 World Cup, the VNL preliminary phase becomes the final qualification race. Ranking movement during the competition can therefore matter beyond qualification for the VNL Finals itself.
The 2027 19-team expansion was announced as a one-edition measure, so the 2028 team count should remain open until FIVB confirms it.

FIVB lists the 2028 men’s VNL for 22 May–25 June. The FIVB World Ranking at the close of the preliminary phase will award the last three men’s LA28 quota places to eligible teams not already qualified.
