Inside Penn State Women’s Volleyball

Penn State Women’s Volleyball is one of the most decorated programs in NCAA Division I volleyball. The Nittany Lions compete in the Big Ten Conference and are based in University Park, Pennsylvania, with Rec Hall serving as the program’s traditional home setting. Katie Schumacher-Cawley, a former Penn State national champion as a player, became head coach in 2022 and added a championship as a coach only three seasons later.

Penn State won its eighth NCAA national championship in 2024, defeating Louisville in the title match. That victory added to a championship tradition that spans multiple eras and made Schumacher-Cawley the first woman head coach to lead a team to the NCAA Division I women’s volleyball title. The combination of historic trophies, Big Ten competition and a consistently demanding home environment keeps Penn State among the sport’s enduring national powers.
