Current Turkish league records list Ewert at 194 cm and 84 kg with a 345 cm spike reach. USA Volleyball and Volleyball World list him slightly taller at 6-foot-5 and 195 cm respectively, a small measurement difference that has appeared across his club and international profiles.

Early Life & Volleyball Beginnings

Ewert grew up in Antioch in a family with a strong volleyball background. His mother, Donna, played volleyball at the University of California, Berkeley, and his younger sister Jenna later played collegiately at Colorado. He also has an older sister, Jessica, and a younger brother, Joshua.

Volleyball was not his first sport. In a 2019 interview with The Stanford Daily, Ewert explained that he primarily played soccer while growing up. Around eighth grade, after a major growth spurt made soccer less appealing, friends invited him to a volleyball tournament. A club coach noticed him there and invited him to join the team, beginning a rapid transition into competitive volleyball.

By age 15, Ewert had begun to see college volleyball as a realistic path. He played above his age group alongside future Hawai‘i setter Joe Worsley and gained exposure to college coaches while competing for Pacific Rim Volleyball Club. Pacific Rim later won both the 17 Open and 18 Open divisions at USA Volleyball’s national tournament during his club career.

At Deer Valley High School, Ewert became one of Northern California’s leading boys’ volleyball players. He captained the team as a senior, helped Deer Valley win three consecutive North Coast Section championships from 2013 through 2015 and was twice named Bay Valley League MVP. He also received East Bay Volleyball Player of the Year recognition and was selected to Volleyball Magazine’s 2015 High School Fab 50.

Ewert was already involved with the U.S. youth national-team system before college. He won gold at the 2014 NORCECA Youth Continental Championship and later played at the 2015 FIVB U19 World Championship. In 2016, he added another continental title with the U.S. U21 team.

College Career at Stanford

Ewert entered Stanford in 2015 and became a starting outside hitter during his freshman season. He appeared in 90 sets in 2016, averaging 1.48 kills and 1.16 digs per set while learning to carry both attacking and reception responsibilities at the NCAA level.

His sophomore season showed a substantial offensive jump. Ewert averaged 3.47 kills per set, ranked among the MPSF leaders in serving and recorded a 26-kill performance against UC Santa Barbara. An ankle injury disrupted the second half of the season, however, and he missed nine matches. He still earned All-MPSF honorable mention recognition and was selected to the MPSF All-Academic Team.

His 2018 campaign was also interrupted, leaving Ewert with only eight starts. That made his senior season especially important. Back in a full-time role in 2019, he became Stanford’s primary outside-hitter scorer and produced the strongest statistical season of his college career.

Ewert averaged 3.65 kills per set as a senior, fourth-best in the MPSF and 15th nationally. He added 1.68 digs per set, hit .313 and led Stanford with five double-doubles. His final collegiate match produced a career-high 28 kills on .412 hitting with 10 digs against BYU in the MPSF Tournament quarterfinals.

That season brought AVCA All-America honorable mention recognition and a place on the All-MPSF Second Team. It also provided a clearer picture of the type of outside hitter Ewert would become professionally: a six-rotation player whose value depended not only on scoring, but on passing, defense and shot selection.

Professional Club Career

First Professional Season in Spain

After graduating from Stanford, Ewert began his professional career with CV Eivissa in Spain for the 2019–20 season. The move provided his first full year outside the American college system and began a European career that would soon take him into stronger domestic leagues.

Rather than returning to the United States after one season abroad, Ewert moved to Germany and signed with SVG Lüneburg in 2020. That transfer became an important step in his professional development.

Three Seasons with SVG Lüneburg

Ewert spent three seasons with Lüneburg from 2020 to 2023 and became one of the Bundesliga club’s principal outside hitters. The 2021–22 campaign was especially significant.

Lüneburg reached the German Cup final after a five-set semifinal against Herrsching in which Ewert scored 31 points and was named match MVP. Although the club did not win the final, Ewert’s performances across the Bundesliga season brought substantial individual recognition.

Before the following season, the German Volleyball Federation documented him receiving the league MVP trophy for 2021–22. The award reflected the Bundesliga’s player-of-the-match system: Ewert had collected seven gold MVP medals and five silver medals during the season, more than any other player.

His three years in Germany established him as a high-volume six-rotation outside hitter capable of carrying significant attacking responsibility while remaining involved in serve reception. They also opened the door to a move to the French league in 2023.

French Champion with Saint-Nazaire

Ewert joined Saint-Nazaire Volley-Ball Atlantique for 2023–24. His first season produced the biggest club title of his professional career to that point.

Saint-Nazaire advanced to the French championship final against Tours and won the title through the golden set after the two clubs split the two-legged final. It was the first French championship in Saint-Nazaire’s history. Ewert scored 19 points in the decisive second match as the club completed an unexpected title run.

He remained with Saint-Nazaire into the 2024–25 season and competed in the CEV Champions League before leaving France midway through the campaign for an opportunity in Italy.

Short SuperLega Spell with Rana Verona

Rana Verona added Ewert in February 2025 for the remainder of the 2024–25 SuperLega season. The transfer gave him his first experience in Italy after previous professional stops in Spain, Germany and France.

In its official signing announcement, Verona highlighted his German and French experience, including Lüneburg’s 2022 German Cup final and Saint-Nazaire’s 2024 French championship.

Ewert quickly demonstrated that he could contribute in the Italian league. In his first SuperLega start against Piacenza, he scored 16 points while attacking at 56 percent and handling a significant share of the reception workload. His stay in Verona was brief, but it added another major league to a career already shaped by movement across Europe.

Altekma SK İzmir

For 2025–26, Ewert moved to Türkiye and joined Altekma SK İzmir. He became one of the team’s primary outside hitters and also represented the club in the 2025–26 CEV Challenge Cup.

His European campaign included several substantial performances. Against Benfica in the Challenge Cup round of 16, Ewert scored 21 points with 18 attack kills, two blocks and an ace as Altekma advanced after a golden set. He remained central to the club’s attacking and reception structure during its continental run.

Altekma retained Ewert for the 2026–27 season. The official Turkish league roster lists him as No. 4, confirming a second consecutive campaign with the İzmir club.

National Team Career

Ewert’s history with USA Volleyball began well before his senior debut. He helped the U.S. win the 2014 NORCECA Youth Continental Championship and later appeared at the 2015 U19 World Championship. At U21 level, he won another NORCECA continental title in 2016 and played at the 2017 FIVB U21 World Championship.

His senior opportunity arrived after he had already spent several years playing professionally in Europe. Ewert made his U.S. senior national-team debut at the 2023 NORCECA Pan American Cup Final Six in Edmonton.

Gold and Individual Awards in His Senior Debut Tournament

The 2023 Final Six immediately established Ewert as one of the leading attackers on the young American roster. Against Mexico, he scored 17 points with 16 kills and an ace. The following day against Puerto Rico, he led all scorers with 14 points, including six aces.

The United States completed the tournament undefeated and swept Canada in the gold-medal match. Ewert contributed eight kills and an ace in the final and was named both Top Server and Top Spiker for the competition.

That tournament turned a developmental national-team opportunity into a path toward regular senior consideration.

Moving into the Volleyball Nations League

Ewert entered the Volleyball Nations League rotation in 2024, appearing during Weeks One and Three for the United States. He returned for the 2025 VNL and produced several important scoring performances as the U.S. used a mixture of established internationals and newer senior-team players.

One of his strongest matches came against China in June 2025. Ewert led all scorers with 18 points, recording 16 kills and two blocks while also contributing in reception during a four-set American victory.

Those VNL appearances helped him secure a place on the roster for his first senior World Championship later that year.

Starting at the 2025 World Championship

Ewert was one of four outside hitters selected for the United States at the 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship in the Philippines. He became a regular starter as the Americans won their group and advanced into the knockout rounds.

Across five matches, Ewert scored 64 points: 60 from attack and four from blocks. He opened the tournament with 11 points against Colombia and followed with double-digit scoring in every U.S. match. His tournament included 12 points against Cuba, 14 against Slovenia in the Round of 16 and 15 against Bulgaria in the quarterfinal.

The U.S. took a two-set lead against Bulgaria but lost the quarterfinal in five sets. Although the tournament ended without a medal, Ewert’s workload represented an important change in his international career. Two years after his senior debut, he was carrying a regular six-rotation role at a major world championship.

2026 VNL and NORCECA Gold

Ewert remained part of the national-team group throughout all three preliminary weeks of the 2026 VNL. Volleyball World recorded 34 points for him during the competition, including 30 attack points and four blocks.

His role expanded again at the 2026 NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship in Moncton, Canada. Wearing No. 29, Ewert appeared throughout an undefeated American run to the title.

He scored 10 points against the Dominican Republic in pool play and another 10 against Cuba. In the championship match against Canada, he delivered 12 points on 11 kills and a block as the United States survived a five-set final.

Ewert finished the tournament with 37 points—33 from attack, two blocks and two aces. The gold medal also completed a senior international progression that had begun with the 2023 Pan American Cup Final Six and expanded through VNL and World Championship competition.

Playing Style & Strengths

Ewert is a six-rotation outside hitter whose game has long depended on a balance between attacking production and first-contact responsibility. At roughly 194–195 cm, he gives away height to many elite international outside hitters, which pushed him to develop skills that allow him to remain useful across the entire rotation.

He discussed that development openly during his senior year at Stanford. Ewert explained that being smaller than many players at his position forced him to improve as a passer and back-court player rather than depending purely on physical dominance. He described serve reception as one of the parts of his game he valued most because of how directly it affects the team’s ability to run its offense.

That background remains visible professionally. Ewert can carry a meaningful reception load while remaining a high-volume left-side option, allowing a team to keep him on court through all six rotations instead of treating him as a front-row specialist.

His attacking game also relies on variation. Rather than trying to beat every block with maximum power, Ewert has described using softer shots, changes of pace and deliberate touches off the block. That approach gives him solutions when facing larger blockers and helps explain how he has remained productive across leagues with different defensive and blocking styles.

Serving has periodically become another important weapon. His six-ace performance against Puerto Rico during the 2023 Pan American Cup Final Six was an extreme example, and he finished that tournament as the Top Server. At club level, his 2021–22 Bundesliga MVP campaign also reflected his ability to influence matches in several phases rather than through attack volume alone.

Personal Life & Interests

Ewert’s family has remained closely connected to volleyball. His mother played at California, while his sister Jenna became a collegiate setter at Colorado before continuing in volleyball beyond college. Stanford’s player biography lists three siblings: Jessica, Jenna and Joshua.

Music has also been a consistent interest away from the court. Stanford listed singing, playing drums and playing guitar among Ewert’s hobbies, giving him an off-court outlet distinct from the highly competitive personality he described during his college career.

That competitiveness was something Ewert discussed candidly near the end of his Stanford career. He said that as he became an older player, he learned that leadership involved more than his own performance and required understanding how his emotions affected teammates. The years that followed—across five European countries and eventually into the senior U.S. team—have given him a career built around adapting to new lineups, coaches and volleyball cultures.

Where Is Jordan Ewert Playing Now?

Ewert remains with Altekma SK İzmir for the 2026–27 season in Türkiye’s Efeler League. The current league roster lists him as No. 4 and as one of the club’s outside hitters.

The season is his second with Altekma after arriving in İzmir for 2025–26. His first year included domestic competition and a CEV Challenge Cup campaign in which he carried a substantial attacking and reception workload.

The continuity is notable within a career that had previously involved regular moves between countries. After Spain, three seasons in Germany, two seasons in France and a short spell in Italy, Altekma became the first club since Saint-Nazaire to retain Ewert for a second consecutive season.

He also remains an active member of the United States Men’s National Volleyball Team. His most recent international tournament was the September 2026 NORCECA Continental Championship, where he wore No. 29 and helped the U.S. win gold.
