How the 2026 Edition Was Decided
Tunisia’s title was built on control rather than recovery. The hosts won Pool A, advanced directly into the quarterfinals and reached the championship match without a defeat before closing the tournament with a straight-set final.
The 2026 edition also carried consequences beyond the medal table. The title was Tunisia’s 12th African crown and sent the national team back to the Olympic Games, while Cameroon and Algeria joined the champions as Africa’s three qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup.
Format, Field & Host
Thirteen national teams were divided into four preliminary pools. Pool winners in three groups received direct quarterfinal places, while the remaining teams entered an additional knockout round before the quarterfinals.
The championship then continued through quarterfinals, semifinals, medal matches and classification matches, producing a complete final placement from first through 13th. The event was staged in Tunis after being relocated from Kinshasa.
