The Division I championship is a single-elimination bracket. In the modern 64-team structure, early rounds are hosted at campus sites before the surviving teams advance through regionals and into the national semifinals and championship at the designated finals venue.
The 2020 season was a major exception: the championship was moved to April 2021 because of the pandemic and used a reduced 48-team field in Omaha. The later editions returned to the 64-team bracket.
For 2026, the NCAA has scheduled the national semifinals for 17 December and the championship match for 20 December at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The full bracket is determined through the NCAA selection process closer to the tournament.
