EDITION ANALYSIS

Continental Title and the Road to LA28

The championship final went five sets. The United States took the first two, Canada responded to force a deciding set, and the Americans closed the title 15–13 in the fifth. Canada’s silver followed a semifinal sweep of Cuba, while the United States reached the final by defeating Dominican Republic 3–0.

The LA28 berth was settled in a separate qualifier after the Continental Championship. Cuba and Canada advanced through the four-team qualification bracket and met on 19 September, when Cuba won 3–1 to claim NORCECA’s men’s Olympic quota place for Los Angeles 2028.

The two events therefore produced different winners: the United States was the 2026 continental champion, while Cuba was the winner of the subsequent regional Olympic qualifier. The United States did not need to contest that quota because it was already qualified as the LA28 host nation.

COMPETITION GUIDE

Format, Field & Qualification Pathway

Eight teams were divided into Pool A and Pool B. The winners of each pool advanced directly to the semifinals, while the second- and third-place teams played quarterfinals. The medal round and classification matches on 16 September established the final championship ranking.

The Continental Championship itself ran from 11–16 September at the Avenir Centre in Moncton. Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Mexico then remained for the separate NORCECA Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament on 18–19 September.

The top three finishers in the championship — United States, Canada and Cuba — earned NORCECA’s places at the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup in Poland.
