2026 Women’s NORCECA Continental Championship
Canada won its first Women’s NORCECA Continental Championship title in 2026, then secured the NORCECA women’s berth for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games in the separate continental qualifier.
2026 Women's Edition at a Glance
The 2026 NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship was held in Santo Domingo from 21–26 August with eight senior national teams. Canada completed an unbeaten 5–0 run by defeating the United States 3–2 in the gold-medal match, earning the first women’s NORCECA Continental Championship title in Canadian history.
Cuba swept host Dominican Republic 3–0 for bronze, Puerto Rico beat Mexico 3–2 for fifth place, and Costa Rica defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3–0 for seventh. Canada libero Kacey Jost was named tournament MVP.
The championship also shaped two qualification pathways. Three available berths to the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup were taken by Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico after already-qualified co-hosts United States and Canada were excluded from the allocation. The leading eligible NORCECA teams then advanced to a separate two-day continental Olympic qualifier for LA28.

Continental Title and the Road to LA28
Canada’s title run was defined by two five-set victories over the United States. Canada first beat the Americans 3–2 in pool play to win Pool A, then repeated the result in the final after taking the opening two sets, losing the next two and controlling the deciding set 15–10.
The Olympic place was decided after the Continental Championship, not in its final. Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico advanced to the NORCECA Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament on 28–29 August. Canada swept Puerto Rico in the semifinal and then defeated Dominican Republic 3–1 in the qualifier final to secure the region’s LA28 Olympic berth.
That distinction matters for the historical record: Canada was both 2026 NORCECA champion and the later Olympic qualifier winner, while the United States was already qualified for LA28 as host and therefore did not compete for the regional quota place.
Format, Field & Qualification Pathway
Eight teams were split into two preliminary pools of four. The pool winners advanced directly to the semifinals, while the teams finishing second and third moved into the quarterfinals. Classification matches then determined positions five through eight alongside the medal round.
The Continental Championship itself ran from 21–26 August at the Prof. Ricardo Gioriver Arias Volleyball Palace in Santo Domingo. The separate NORCECA Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament followed at the same venue on 28–29 August.
The 2026 championship carried qualification value for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup and determined the eligible teams that continued into NORCECA’s LA28 Olympic qualification stage.
