The LA28 women’s Olympic volleyball tournament will feature 12 teams at Honda Center. Six are already qualified: United States, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Thailand and Türkiye.
2028 Women's Tournament Preview
The Los Angeles 2028 women’s Olympic volleyball tournament will feature 12 national teams and will be played at Honda Center in Anaheim. As of 29 October 2026, six places are confirmed: host United States plus 2026 continental qualifiers Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Thailand and Türkiye.
The remaining six places will be awarded in two stages. Three go to the highest-finishing teams at the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup that are not already qualified, and three go to the highest-ranked eligible teams in the FIVB World Ranking at the close of the VNL 2028 preliminary phase.
Why This Upcoming Edition Matters
Half of the field is already known more than a year before the Games, but the second half will be determined much closer to Los Angeles. That creates two distinct qualification races: tournament placement at the 2027 World Cup and ranking position during the 2028 VNL.
The current list should therefore be read as qualified teams, not a seed order. Pool assignments and the detailed Olympic competition format will be added only after official LA28/FIVB announcements.
Confirmed Format, Qualification & Host Information
LA28 has 12 women’s volleyball quota places. The United States qualifies automatically as host; five places are awarded to the 2026 continental qualification winners; three places go to the best 2027 World Cup finishers not already qualified; and the final three go through the FIVB World Ranking after the VNL 2028 preliminary phase.
Honda Center in Anaheim is the volleyball venue. The published session schedule places women’s preliminary matches from 16–23 July, quarterfinals on 25 July, semifinals on 27 July, bronze on 29 July and the gold-medal match on 30 July 2028.
