Adriano Fernandes Procópio Xavier Cavalcante, better known as Adriano Xavier, is a Brazilian outside hitter who plays for Itas Trentino and the Brazil Men’s National Volleyball Team. Born on February 6, 2002, in Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais, the 201 cm winger established himself in Brazil through a breakout SuperLiga season with Vôlei UM Itapetininga and five seasons with Vôlei Renata Campinas before signing a two-year deal with Trentino Volley in 2026. The move to Italy is the first overseas club chapter of his career.
By age 24, Adriano had already played at the Olympic Games, won bronze at the 2022 World Championship and 2025 Volleyball Nations League, collected Pan American and South American titles with Brazil, and accumulated multiple Best Outside Hitter honors in the Brazilian SuperLiga. His 2026 season added another important international milestone: Brazil won the South American Championship without dropping a set, qualified directly for Los Angeles 2028, and Adriano was selected as one of the tournament’s two best outside hitters.

Early Life & Volleyball Beginnings
Adriano grew up in Minas Gerais and entered organized volleyball through the Esporte para Todos programme, competing in youth volleyball before his development took him beyond his home state. He was identified in competitions in the Triângulo Mineiro region and reached a Brazilian volleyball federation tryout in 2017. His pathway then led to Canoas in Rio Grande do Sul, where he continued through the youth system and moved toward senior competition.
His first senior club season came with APAV Vôlei in 2019–20, when he was still 17. APAV competed in Brazil’s SuperLiga B, although the season was interrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic. The next move was far more consequential. Adriano joined Vôlei UM Itapetininga for the 2020–21 SuperLiga and quickly became one of the competition’s young breakout players. Itapetininga entered the playoffs as an outsider but eliminated powerhouse Sada Cruzeiro in the quarterfinals and reached the semifinals. Adriano scored 294 points across 91 sets during the campaign and earned recognition among the league’s leading outside hitters.
The performances also moved him into Brazil’s senior-national-team picture. In April 2021, while still 19, he received his first invitation to train with the senior squad at the national development center in Saquarema. That same year became a bridge between his emergence in domestic volleyball and a much larger international role.
Club Career
Breakthrough at Itapetininga
Adriano’s single season at Vôlei UM Itapetininga established his reputation at senior level. The club’s run to the 2020–21 SuperLiga semifinals was built in part on a quarterfinal upset of Sada Cruzeiro, and Adriano’s 294-point campaign gave larger Brazilian clubs a clear view of a 19-year-old outside hitter already capable of carrying a substantial attacking workload.
Vôlei Renata Campinas signed him for 2021–22, beginning the longest club spell of his career to date.
Five Seasons with Vôlei Renata
Adriano remained with the Campinas project from 2021–22 through 2025–26. Over those five seasons, his role evolved from promising young attacker to one of the team’s central six-rotation players, while Vôlei Renata developed into a consistent challenger for Brazil’s biggest domestic trophies.
During his tenure, the club collected multiple São Paulo State Championship titles and reached three consecutive SuperLiga finals from 2024 through 2026.
The 2025–26 season was the high point of that period. Vôlei Renata won the South American Club Championship for the first time, recovering from two sets down to beat Sada Cruzeiro 3–2 in Campinas. Adriano delivered 25 points in the final and scored the point that completed the comeback. He was also selected among the tournament’s leading outside hitters.
One week later, Campinas defeated Cruzeiro again, this time 3–1 in the Brazilian Cup final. It was the first Brazilian Cup title and first national trophy in the club project’s history. The same season ended with another SuperLiga final between the two teams. Cruzeiro won that match in straight sets, leaving Vôlei Renata with a third successive league runner-up finish but completing a season in which Adriano’s club had won the state championship, the South American title and the Brazilian Cup.
First Move Abroad: Itas Trentino
On June 22, 2026, Trentino Volley announced Adriano on a two-season contract. The transfer ended five consecutive SuperLiga seasons with Vôlei Renata and gave him his first club experience outside Brazil. Trentino assigned him number 18 and added him to an outside-hitter group that also includes Alessandro Michieletto, Daniele Lavia and Federico Roberti.
The destination was not accidental. In his first interview as a Trentino Volley player, Adriano discussed wanting to test himself in the Italian SuperLega and identified former Trentino player and Brazil teammate Ricardo Lucarelli as one of the people who encouraged the move. He also described versatility as a central part of his game and singled out reception and serving as areas in which he feels particularly comfortable.

National Team Career
Adriano’s international career began in Brazil’s age-group system. He represented the country at the 2019 U19 World Championship before his domestic breakthrough accelerated his progression toward the senior squad. His April 2021 invitation to train with Brazil’s senior team was followed by selection for the South American Championship later that year. Brazil won the continental title, giving Adriano his first senior international gold medal while he was still 19.
Later in 2021, Adriano took a leading role for Brazil at the inaugural Junior Pan American Games in Cali. Brazil went unbeaten and defeated Mexico in straight sets in the final. Adriano scored 14 points in the title match and was named both the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Best Server, an early indication that his service pressure could become a significant part of his senior game.
His first senior World Championship followed in 2022. Brazil reached the medal round and finished with bronze, adding a major global medal to Adriano’s résumé at age 20. A year later, he was part of the Brazilian squad that won men’s volleyball gold at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
Paris 2024 marked his Olympic debut. One of his strongest performances came in the pool-stage match against Poland: Adriano entered from the bench and scored 18 points, matching Ricardo Lucarelli as Brazil’s leading scorer in a five-set defeat. Brazil progressed to the quarterfinals before its tournament ended against the United States. Adriano later identified the Poland match as his favorite match of his career to that point.
Brazil returned to a global podium in the 2025 Volleyball Nations League, taking bronze. Adriano remained part of Bernardinho’s plans in 2026 and produced a productive VNL preliminary phase, especially from the service line.
His international summer finished with the 2026 South American Championship in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil won all five matches without dropping a set, defeated Argentina 3–0 in the decisive match, claimed its 34th continental championship and secured direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Adriano was named one of the tournament’s two Best Outside Hitters.
Playing Style & Strengths
Adriano is a tall, right-handed outside hitter whose role extends beyond front-row scoring. His profile fits the demands of a modern six-rotation wing attacker: he contributes in attack while remaining involved in serve reception and can create direct pressure from the service line.
Adriano himself has described versatility as a defining objective and has identified reception and serving as the skills in which he feels most confident.
His recent international numbers make the serving component particularly clear. During the 2026 VNL preliminary phase, Adriano produced 14 aces in 12 appearances, placing seventh among the competition’s servers at that stage. He also registered 84 attack points, 47 digs and handled 195 reception attempts. At the South American Championship later that year, six of his 34 points came directly from serve.
From a tactical standpoint, his 201 cm frame gives him the physical dimensions to attack as a genuine scoring outlet while still remaining part of the reception unit. His 18-point Olympic performance against Poland after entering from the bench also showed his capacity to change a match as an attacking option rather than requiring a long stretch of touches to find rhythm.
That balance is particularly relevant at Trentino, where he joins a deep outside-hitter group instead of arriving as the team’s only high-volume attacker.
Blocking is better viewed as an area with further upside than as the defining feature of his current statistical profile. Trentino highlighted room for continued development in that part of his game when announcing his signing. The more established elements of his profile are the combination of first-contact responsibility, attacking range and an increasingly productive serve.

Personal Life & Interests
Adriano’s official Trentino profile lists “Didico” as his nickname and high school as his completed level of education. Away from volleyball, he describes shopping and spending time with friends among his hobbies, along with an interest in food, music, travel, dancing and singing. Campinas — the city where he spent five seasons with Vôlei Renata — is listed as his ideal city.
His sporting reference points also connect directly to his volleyball career. Adriano has named Ricardo Lucarelli, Maurício Borges and Bruno Rezende among the volleyball players he has followed with particular admiration, while also citing tennis player Rafael Nadal.
Lucarelli became especially relevant to Adriano’s next career step because the Brazil teammate had previously played for Trentino and encouraged him to accept the Italian move. Adriano also spoke enthusiastically about adapting to life in Italy, including learning Italian and getting to know the local culture.
Where Is Adriano Xavier Playing Now?
As of the 2026–27 season, Adriano is an Itas Trentino player in the Italian SuperLega. He signed a two-year agreement covering the 2026–27 and 2027–28 seasons and wears number 18. The move is his first club experience outside Brazil after five consecutive campaigns with Vôlei Renata Campinas.
His arrival in Trento followed an extended summer with the Brazilian national team. Brazil completed the 2026 South American Championship on September 20, and Adriano then joined Trentino’s preparations for his first Italian season after finishing the international summer as a continental champion and Best Outside Hitter.
The transfer also places him in one of the deepest outside-hitter groups of his club career, alongside Alessandro Michieletto, Daniele Lavia and Federico Roberti. His first season in Italy therefore represents both a step into a more demanding domestic league and a new competition for court time within an established elite roster.
