COMPETITION GUIDE

Current Format & Qualification

The competition brings together senior national teams from CSV member federations. The exact field and competition system vary by edition: some recent championships used a single round-robin table, while earlier editions also used preliminary pools followed by classification and medal rounds.

The 2026 championships in Rio de Janeiro used six-team single round-robin formats. The champions earned South America’s direct Los Angeles 2028 Olympic quota, while the top three teams qualified for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball World Cup.
