Inside LOVB Nebraska

LOVB Nebraska represents one of the strongest volleyball states in the United States and has increasingly treated the whole state, rather than a single city, as its home market. The franchise grew from LOVB’s original professional launch and now plays as LOVB Nebraska, using venues in Omaha and additional Nebraska cities to reach a broader fan base. For 2026–27, the club appointed Greek coach Giannis Athanasopoulos after his successful work in European club volleyball and with the Czech national team. His arrival marked a new competitive phase for a team already operating in an unusually mature volleyball culture, where college and youth participation give the professional game an established audience.

That statewide approach is central to Nebraska’s identity. Matches at Baxter Arena established a regular professional home, while additional dates in Grand Island and Lincoln have been used to extend the club’s footprint beyond Omaha. The team also benefits from the presence of players with strong Nebraska collegiate connections, making the transition from college fandom to professional support unusually direct. LOVB Nebraska therefore functions as both an elite club and a bridge between several layers of the state’s volleyball community. As LOVB expands nationally, Nebraska’s challenge is less about introducing the sport than about converting an existing, highly knowledgeable fan base into sustained support for year-round professional volleyball.
