COMPETITION GUIDE

Current Format & Qualification

The African Nations Championship is contested by senior national teams representing CAVB member federations. The competition structure can change with the size of the qualified field, but recent editions have combined preliminary pools with knockout and classification matches.

The 2026 championships carried unusually high qualification value: the men’s and women’s champions secured Africa’s direct places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, while the top three teams in each tournament qualified for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball World Cup.
