Player Overview

About Diana Duarte Alecrim

Brazilian middle blocker Diana Duarte has developed from Barueri’s youth system into one of the most productive blockers of Brazil’s current national-team generation. Born in Barueri, São Paulo, on February 22, 1999, she progressed through local development programs before establishing herself in the Brazilian Superliga, spending two seasons in Türkiye and returning home with SESI Vôlei Bauru. Her senior international résumé includes an Olympic bronze medal at Paris 2024, World Championship bronze in 2025 and three Volleyball Nations League silver-medal campaigns.

Blocking has become the clearest statistical marker of her rise. Diana finished the 2025 World Championship with 27 block points, the second-highest total in the competition, then recorded 39 blocks during the 2026 VNL. Her club career has followed a similar upward curve: after a difficult second season with Türk Hava Yolları in which foreign-player restrictions limited her opportunities, she returned to Brazil in 2025 and quickly became a leading scorer and blocker for SESI Vôlei Bauru. In 2026 she helped the club win its first South American Club Championship and was selected as one of the tournament’s best middle blockers.

Volleyball World and the Brazilian Olympic Committee list Diana at 194 cm, which is also the figure used throughout her senior Brazilian national-team career. Her 69 kg weight is listed by Hansports and established player databases; the 310 cm spike reach and 306 cm block reach come from the secondary physical-data record used when official competition profiles do not publish those measurements.

Early Life & Volleyball Beginnings

Diana was born and raised in Barueri, a city that would remain central to her development for much of the first decade of her volleyball career. She entered the Grêmio Recreativo Barueri system at around 12 years old and spent the 2011–2016 period learning the position in one of São Paulo state’s established development programs. Years later, in a 2018 Hansports interview, Diana described Barueri as the place where volleyball began for her and where the possibility of building a career in the sport first became realistic.

She moved to ADC Bradesco for 2016/17, continuing through age-group competition while also progressing within Brazil’s youth national-team structure. The 2016 South American U20 Championship was an important early landmark: Brazil won the title and Diana was selected as the competition’s leading middle blocker. That tournament gave her an international achievement before she had established herself as a senior professional.

Her transition into adult volleyball came at São Cristóvão Saúde/São Caetano. Diana arrived during the 2017/18 season at 18 and began receiving opportunities in the Superliga alongside more experienced players. She later identified Argentine middle blocker Mimi Sosa as an important example during that transition, while Fabiana Claudino was another player she studied closely. Rather than entering the senior game as an immediate first-choice starter, Diana’s first seasons were about learning the speed and tactical demands of professional volleyball and gradually earning a larger role.

Club Career

From São Caetano back to Barueri

After her first senior experience with São Caetano, Diana returned to Barueri in 2019 to work within José Roberto Guimarães’s program. The move connected her professional career with the city where she had developed as a youth player and began a four-season stretch in which she moved from promising middle blocker to one of the most important players in the team.

The first year produced immediate success. São Paulo/Barueri won the 2019 Campeonato Paulista, the first senior state championship of Diana’s career. She was still eligible for youth competition at the same time and also helped Barueri capture the Paulista U21 title, scoring 19 points in the decisive five-set win over Pinheiros. The overlap between youth and professional responsibilities illustrated how quickly she was moving through the final stage of development.

Diana remained with Barueri through the 2022/23 season. The club did not operate with the financial depth of Brazil’s biggest Superliga teams, so its younger players routinely received meaningful responsibility rather than limited developmental minutes. For Diana, that meant sustained starting opportunities through the middle and the chance to build both blocking volume and attacking responsibility.

Her final season before leaving Brazil was statistically substantial. SESI’s later review of that campaign records 199 points for Diana in the 2022/23 Superliga, including 53 blocks, as Barueri advanced to the quarterfinals. That season came after her first involvement with Brazil’s senior national team and confirmed that her growing international status was supported by a significant weekly role at club level.

Two seasons with Türk Hava Yolları

Diana made her first overseas club move in 2023, joining Türk Hava Yolları in Türkiye. The transfer placed her in one of the strongest domestic leagues in the world and was a clear change from the development-focused environment she had known in Barueri.

Her two seasons at THY were useful but not straightforward. CEV records her as number 12 for the Istanbul club in European competition, and the experience exposed her to a faster, more physical club environment with a roster built around multiple international players. At the same time, foreign-player restrictions in Turkish domestic competition affected how consistently she could be used.

That tension was especially visible in 2024/25. SESI’s announcement of her return to Brazil noted that Diana shared the middle-blocker position during the Turkish league season and finished with 80 points, including 28 blocks. Her best scoring match came against VakıfBank, when she produced 11 points.

The Turkish chapter therefore mattered for more than its raw match totals. It was Diana’s first extended period outside Brazil, forced her to adapt to a different roster structure and competitive environment, and overlapped with her progression from emerging senior international to Olympic medalist. When she returned to the Brazilian league in 2025, she did so with substantially more international experience than when she had left Barueri.

Return to Brazil with SESI Vôlei Bauru

SESI Vôlei Bauru signed Diana for the 2025/26 season, bringing her back to the Brazilian Superliga after two years abroad. The move immediately restored a larger week-to-week role. Wearing number 2, she became one of Bauru’s starting middles and developed into one of the club’s most productive players rather than simply a specialist at the net.

Her first season produced two major titles. Bauru won the 2025 Campeonato Paulista and then traveled to Lima for the 2026 South American Club Championship. The continental tournament became one of the strongest club performances of Diana’s career. Bauru won every set it played, defeated Osasco 3-0 in the final and earned qualification for the Club World Championship. Diana started the final and was named a Best Middle Blocker of the tournament. The club’s championship report records both her starting role and the individual recognition.

The Superliga campaign gave an even clearer picture of her workload. Official CBV statistics credit Diana with 264 points during the 2025/26 regular and playoff campaign, including 165 attack points, 75 blocks and 24 aces. She finished fifth in the league for total block points, fourth in aces and led SESI Bauru in overall scoring. For a middle blocker on a team containing several high-volume wing attackers, finishing as the club’s leading scorer showed how consistently she contributed in all three scoring phases.

Bauru’s national-league run ended in the quarterfinals against Praia Clube, but Diana’s individual season led directly into a contract renewal. In May 2026, ge reported her extension, keeping her with SESI Vôlei Bauru for 2026/27.

Her second season began with further individual recognition. After returning from national-team duty, Diana helped Bauru win the 2026 Taça Brasil and was selected as both tournament MVP and Best Middle Blocker. She then rejoined the Paulista campaign, where Bauru reached another final before finishing runner-up to Osasco.

National Team Career

Diana spent several years in Brazil’s age-group programs before reaching the senior national team. Her first important continental success came in 2016, when Brazil won the South American U20 Championship and she was selected as a Best Middle Blocker. Five years later, she was one of the experienced players in Brazil’s U23 group at the inaugural Junior Pan American Games in Cali.

That 2021 tournament became a defining bridge between youth and senior international volleyball. Brazil defeated Peru in five sets to win gold, and NORCECA named Diana tournament MVP. The award came shortly before she entered the senior national-team cycle that followed the Tokyo Olympics.

José Roberto Guimarães called Diana into senior training in 2022. She made her VNL debut that season and scored 33 points across her appearances, including 11 blocks. Brazil eventually finished with silver, but Diana did not remain through the Finals. She had already decided to undergo orthognathic surgery, a procedure intended to correct jaw alignment and improve both bite and breathing.

That decision created an unusual early interruption in her senior international career. As the CBV later explained, Diana left the 2022 national-team campaign before the VNL Finals and consequently also missed the World Championship while recovering. José Roberto Guimarães had initially encouraged her to consider delaying the procedure so she could continue competing for a World Championship place, but Diana chose the surgery and spent roughly three months away from the court.

She returned in 2023 determined to establish a more complete senior role. Diana was again part of the VNL group and later helped Brazil win the South American Championship. That continental gold was her first title with the senior national team and provided a more stable platform going into the Olympic season.

Paris 2024 brought the most significant medal of her career. Diana made Brazil’s Olympic roster as one of the team’s middle blockers and won bronze after Brazil defeated Türkiye in the third-place match. Her court role during the Games was limited compared with the established middle-blocker pairing ahead of her, but selection for the final Olympic roster represented an important step only two years after surgery had removed her from the 2022 World Championship cycle.

The following season produced a larger competitive role. In the 2025 VNL, Diana appeared in 12 matches and scored 106 points. Her 36 blocks ranked sixth in the tournament and second among Brazilian players. She also contributed 10 blocks during the elimination rounds as Brazil advanced to the final before taking silver behind Italy. Her best blocking performance came against France, with nine blocks in a 14-point match.

Her progression became even clearer at the 2025 World Championship. Diana played in all seven of Brazil’s matches and finished with 71 points: 38 in attack, 27 from blocks and six from serve. The 27 block points were the second-highest total in the tournament. Her strongest scoring performance came in the semifinal against eventual champion Italy, where she produced 15 points, six of them blocks. Brazil responded to that defeat by beating Japan in five sets for bronze. SESI’s World Championship review documented both her seven-match role and her place among the tournament’s leading blockers.

Diana maintained that level in the 2026 VNL. Volleyball World’s official player statistics record 108 points in 15 matches: 57 attack points, 39 blocks and 12 aces. Her 39 block points tied for the second-highest total in the competition. Brazil reached another final and took silver after losing 3-1 to Türkiye.

The 2026 international season ended with another significant achievement in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil hosted the South American Championship with a direct Olympic place at Los Angeles 2028 available to the winner. Diana was part of the 14-player roster and contributed throughout a perfect campaign in which Brazil won all five matches without dropping a set. She scored 12 points against Peru, including four blocks, and finished the tournament with 13 block points — the highest total among Brazilian players. In the decisive match against Argentina, three Diana blocks in quick succession helped Brazil take control of the final set and secure both the continental title and Olympic qualification.

Playing Style & Strengths

Blocking is the defining part of Diana’s senior game. Her 194 cm frame gives her natural size in the middle, but the repeated numbers across club and international competitions point to more than reach alone. She recorded 27 block points at the 2025 World Championship, 39 in the 2026 VNL and 75 during the 2025/26 Brazilian Superliga. Those totals across three different environments suggest a blocker whose value comes from repeatable positioning, reading and timing rather than occasional matchup-specific production.

The 2026 VNL provides a useful snapshot of her broader middle-blocker profile. Diana scored 108 points, with 57 in attack, 39 from blocks and 12 from serve. Her attacking success rate was listed at 52.29%, showing that she remained efficient as a first-tempo option while carrying one of the tournament’s largest blocking workloads. Because a middle blocker’s attacking opportunities depend heavily on first contact and setter access, Diana does not need the volume of a wing scorer to influence a match; her efficiency allows Brazil to punish opponents who commit too aggressively to the pins.

Serving has developed into an additional source of value. During the 2025/26 Superliga she produced 24 aces, the fourth-highest total in the competition, while also finishing among the league leaders in blocking. The combination is particularly useful for a middle because it extends her influence beyond the rotations in which she is attacking at the net. Her 12 aces in the 2026 VNL reinforced that this was not only a domestic-league pattern.

Her progression also shows in decisive sequences. At the 2026 South American Championship, Diana led Brazil with 13 block points across the tournament. Against Argentina, she produced three blocks in quick succession during the last set of the match that secured Brazil’s Olympic qualification. That kind of run illustrates the pressure a productive middle can create when serving and blocking systems work together: a difficult first contact reduces the opposing setter’s options, allowing Diana to commit more aggressively to the most likely attack.

The strongest version of Diana’s game therefore combines three scoring routes rather than one. Blocking remains the centerpiece, but first-tempo efficiency and a productive serve make her more difficult to reduce to a single specialist role.
